For many people exams are something you associate with a school or college. In this environment, you don’t have to directly pay to take exams. This means that many people don’t understand the fee structure for a private exam centre. Here we will explain what our fees include and what you can expect from us.
Private exam centres are not as expensive as you think
There is a myth that taking exams at a private exam centre is prohibitively expensive. This is not the case. However, we do have to charge a fee because unlike schools and colleges we do not receive any funding. We have to cover all the costs connected with the services we provide.
What is included in the fee?
The fee you pay as a student covers a number of things related to your exam.
The fee covers;
• The entry fee we pay to the exam board for you to take the exam.
• Our time to plan and prepare for the exam series.
• The actual running of the exams themselves.
• Distributing your results and certificates after exams.
• The fee also contributes towards our general centre running costs, including utilities and equipment.
Why do science exams cost more?
The fee we charge is based on the type of exam you are taking. An A Level Science exam involves undertaking lab based practical endorsements. This obviously involves a greater cost. We utilise the top-class facilities at Bristol University for this, to ensure all our students have the best opportunity to succeed. The fee for a science A level covers;
• The cost of insurance for lab-based work.
• Lab book printing and posting.
• Purchasing the equipment, materials and chemicals for lab work.
• The cost of using the facility and staffing it.
What are the benefits of using a private exam centre?
If you are a distance learner, home educated, a mature student or a SEN student, a private exam centre can provide the option to take exams in a different setting. Our knowledge and experience help us provide a smooth registration process and we are here to ease any concerns. Our exam centre is in a great location in Bristol, making it easy to access on the day itself. The fee we charge helps us provide the quality service we are known for.
How are fees paid?
When you contact us to take an exam, we will go through all the fees and payment options with you. If you are unable to pay the entry fee as a one-off payment, we offer students the opportunity to pay the fee via interest free instalments.
